What fears hold you back from conquering your promised land? Maybe it’s the fear of public speaking or singing a solo. Maybe you fear starting a business because you think it might fail, or starting a blog because no one will read it.

It is certain that to become all that you can be, you will have to find the courage to conquer your promised land, just like Joshua did.

In Numbers 13, Moses sent 12 spies into the land of Canaan, the land that the Lord had promised the Israelites. They were to see if the land was good and if the people were strong or weak.

Only two of the spies brought back a good report. The others were fearful of the people in the land. The people were big and strong and the spies saw themselves as grasshoppers when compared to them.

Even though God had come through for the Israelites many, many times up to this point, they were still fearful. They did not trust Him and refused to go in and conquer the Promised Land. Because of this disobedience, they had to wander the desert for 40 years.

40 years later when the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land, the Lord reminded Joshua that He was with him as He had been with Moses and encouraged him to be strong and courageous.

Everything God has promised you is already yours. If you don’t conquer your fears it will lead to disobedience and rob you of your “promised land”.

Memorize these 8 scriptures to build up strength and courage to conquer your Promised Land.

Joshua 1:9

‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

In Joshua Chapter 1, God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous 3 times as He reminded Him that He would go with them as they conquered the promised land.

The Reubenites, Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh that had been given land on the other side of the Jordan, also said these words to Joshua as the committed themselves to him as they had done to Moses.

Certainly, the people of Israel needed this reassurance because 40 years earlier their ancestors had shaken in their boots at the reports of the 10 spies about the people of the land. Giant people who devoured the inhabitants of the land.

The same way God was with them then, He is with you now. Put your trust in Him and don’t let the giant of fear prevent you from receiving what God has promised you.

1 John 4:18

‘There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”

I don’t know about you but I surrendered my life to the Lord partially out of fear. It wasn’t even fear for myself, but for my daughter who was about to enter secondary (high) school.

I realized that I would have to trust God to take care of her, given all that she was about to be exposed to because I couldn’t be there.

But my relationship with God was cemented when I caught a glimpse of His Love and realized that when He said He will never leave me nor forsake me, He meant it.

It was fear that brought me but it is love that keeps me.

When you realized that this Perfect God loves you with a perfect love and He’s always on your side, you have the courage to overcome anything.

Proverbs 28:1

“The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”

Focus on the second part of this verse. Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and we are the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Cor 5:21), therefore we are righteous and as bold as our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

This is one of my favorite verses and every time I read it I’m overwhelmed by how much He loves me. And it doesn’t even mention love.

How amazing is it that our big and mighty God is there for you. He promises to be with you, strengthen you, help you and hold you up with His own mighty hand.

2 Timothy 1:7

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. “

Whenever fear threatens to overcome remember that its just an illusion. Fear is not the spirit that God has given you. You have a spirit of power, love, and self-control (or a sound mind). Believe it!

Romans 8:31

‘What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? ‘

We’ve got the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God on our side. A Father fighting for his children.

Really, what enemy stands a chance? Certainly not fear.

Romans 8:37-39

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. .”

The Complete Jewish Bible version says that we are super conquerors. Put on your cape my friend, the Avengers have got nothing on you!

Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Let’s end where we started – be strong and courageous.

These were the words spoken to the Israelites by Moses to the people of Isreal as they were about to enter the Promised Land, similar to what God said to Joshua.

God knew that the Israelites would come against great opposition in the Promised as they went out to take the land that He had promised but it was no match for Him.

He promised them that He would be right there with them and would not leave them.

God promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you and we know that He always keeps His promises.

You have no need to fear, be strong and courageous because your God is with you.

Memorize at least one of these scriptures this week and use it whenever fear threatens to stop you from moving forward. Go out and conquer your promised land.
